Arthur Andersen LLP ruling. It essentially makes noncompete agreements in employment contracts void unless they meet certain specific criteria. It&#8217;s important to note that in certain areas, the minimum wage might be even higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-dark-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-fb39b7d9f68bee585aff45c1bb247d86 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Higher Minimum Wage for Healthcare Workers<\/strong>: As of June 1, under SB 252 introduced by Senator Maria Elena Durazo, healthcare workers in selected facilities will receive a minimum wage of $23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-dark-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-01470b8bc75778f880c63dc9a3e91816 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>More Paid Sick Leave<\/strong>: According to SB 616, introduced by Senator Lena Gonzalez and effective from January 1, employees are entitled to accumulate a minimum of 40 hours, or five days, of sick leave or paid time off within 200 days from their employment start date, with this benefit renewing annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-dark-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-806acf06fb1e9cb26769cb3405ffd8bd wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Provisions for Reproductive Leave<\/strong>: Starting January 1, under Senator Susan Rubio&#8217;s SB 848, employers are required to grant reproductive leave. The leave is available within three months of an applicable event, subject to certain conditions and limitations within a 12-month period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-dark-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-41a366f0ea3690f45105b0b1f53d32b9 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Mandated Notification for Remote Workers<\/strong>: SB 731 by Senator Angelique Ashby, effective from January 1, demands employers provide a 30-day advance notice to remote workers before calling them back to on-site work. This includes clarifications on rights related to disability accommodations for remote work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-dark-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-653adc70a4b7498a9158801ff6951b9d wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Prohibition of Cannabis Discrimination in Employment<\/strong>: Senator Steven Bradford&#8217;s forthcoming SB 700 is set to prohibit discrimination in employment based on cannabis-related reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>CA Housing Laws<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-dark-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-156e304f75a241d7a5c1ec5dd994b98c wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Security Deposits maxed at one month<\/strong>: AB 12, introduced by Assemblymember Matt Haney and effective from July 1, caps security deposits at a maximum of one month&#8217;s rent regardless of whether the unit is furnished, with an exception for owners of a small number of rental properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-dark-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-e918494a35642c5c1b983f60a1420757 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Relocation Assistance for Disabled Tenants<\/strong>: Starting January 1, AB 1620 initiated by Assemblyman Zbur will assist tenants with permanent mobility-related disabilities in rent-controlled units, allowing them to move to different, accessible units within the same property without changing their rent or terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-dark-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-bed71a206773f9ce6d9f2e99fb2e7ab3 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Renters with poor credit can worry less.<\/strong> SB 267 by State Sen.
